ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Born 1957 in Victoria, B.C., artist Jan Poynter majored in Painting and Printmaking at the Vancouver School of Art and continued in Art Education at the University of British Columbia.
Jan’s outstanding rendering abilities have contributed to her fine art career with expertise in illustration, watercolor, pastel and oil & acrylic painting. Her commercial designs and illustrations have been applied to international corporate architectural décor, signage and branding, promotional material, corporate gifting, book covers, children’s educational literature, stationary, souvenir, giftware and home décor products.
With over 27 years of varied teaching experience, Jan offers local fine arts classes for private students and art groups. A founding member of the Sunshine Coast Artists Co-operative and the Coast Cultural Alliance, she also works weekly with a life/figure group and paints portraits.

In spring 2007, Jan completed a public art project in Gibsons Landing – the popular “Seastone” Hydro kiosk. She was chosen as Artist-in-Residence for the Iris Griffith Center at Ruby Lake for the month of August 2007 (Artists Celebration-Arts Now Olympic 2010 funding) and produced a series of figurative works for a show at the SC Arts Center in Sechelt for Aug-Sept 07. Her major SOLO show of urban “Harbour-scapes” was held at the Place des Arts cultural center in Coquitlam, B.C. Oct 9 - Nov 8 / 2008. Five months of design and production of a large mural for the Sunshine Coast Regional Museum in Lower Gibsons was completed with installation in May 2008. Another on-site public art project of 5 kiosks for the B.C Hydro and DIstrict of Sechelt was completed in 2009.



Jan is currently exhibiting her original paintings at: Gift of the Eagle Gallery – Gibsons Landing BC.

Hambleton Fine Arts - Vancouver BC. and is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
